Regarding our Stainless Steel
RECLAIM uses only 150-class stainless
fittings (elbows, tees, couplings, reducers, crosses, plugs, bushings,
caps and unions) that have been produced to the MSS SP-114 spec. This
is the only spec in the industry, which establishes dimensional and
material standards for these types and classes of fittings. The NPT
threads of SP-114 fittings conform to the requirements of ANSI/ASME
B1.20.1. SP-114 requires that cast fittings conform to all requirements
of specific ASTM A351 CF-family casting grades, including full and
proper heat treatment. Wrought fittings must conform to ASTM A182.
Additionally, SP-114 fittings must be capable of passing corrosion
testing for susceptibility to intergranular corrosion; ASTM A262-B for
cast fittings and A262-E for wrought fittings. (Just FYI, we have seen
commercial-quality 150# fittings literally dissolve when
subjected to A262 corrosion testing.) Our SP-114 fittings are subjected
to A262-B to demonstrate corrosion rates less than or equal to the
DuPont data as reported in ASTM Corrosion Tests and Standards.
The majority of SP-114 fittings we supply are manufactured by Kingdom
Precision casting which investment casts the fittings and extensively
utilizes CNC machining to finish, bore and thread the fittings. There
are only a handful of manufacturers that produce conforming SP-114
fittings, but we have encountered a few manufacturers that have marked
SP-114 on fittings that do not conform to SP-114 either dimensionally
and / or metallurgically. We are fortunate enough to have access to
several mills that make conforming fittings; we prefer Kingdom
Precision fittings. 2007 introduced dimensional changes to straight
couplings and unions that were affirmed by the MSS Committee 108; these
were adopted by Kingdom Precision and another mill for production but
will be made mandatory starting with the SP-114-2007 Edition.
To summarize RECLAIM uses only SP-114 fittings that have controlled
dimensions and metallurgy proven to be superior to commercial-quality
“150# stainless”. Not only does RECLAIM use stainless steel
instead of carbon steel or plastic but our stainless steel is of the
highest quality available in the industry.
